WHAT HAPPENS IF MY TEST IS POSITIVE?

You won't be left to figure out the next steps alone. Our Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) works with everyone who receives a positive HIV or Syphilis result. A DIS is a trained public health professional who will:


  1. Explain your results in plain language and answer your questions
  2. Connect you to free or low-cost treatment and care close to home
  3. Offer partner services which is confidential, voluntary help letting partners know they may have been exposed, either anonymously or with you
  4. Check in with you until you're connected to the care you need


Everything you share is confidential. Partner services are always your choice. You decide what is shared, how it's shared, and whether is happens at all.

ABOUT GALION CITY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

The Galion City Health Department serves as a hub for STI and HIV Prevention Grant programming from the Ohio Department of Health. Ohio is divided up into eleven covered regions and 9 counties make up the area we cover: Ashland, Crawford, Erie, Huron, Knox, Marion, Richland, Seneca, and Wyandot.


We assure that individuals in these counties have access to STI and HIV testing, treatment, and prevention services. This also includes provision of free medication used to treat STIs, condom/barrier distribution, provider education and technical assistance. Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) provide assistance for individuals that test positive for HIV and syphilis to promote adequate treatment, partner services, and ultimately, stop the spread of infection. Galion City Health Department also houses a full service STI clinic.
